I don’t know if I have a mental outline for the mlm vs wlw shows idea yet, and I might not be experienced enough to write it. I’ve seen some YouTube video essays that address the topic, and may get around to watching them someday.

I have some other friends who love Gideon and Harrow and The Locked Tomb! I’m sure I’ll end up reading those books eventually, as they seem to keep coming up in my conversations.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post! I used to watch a ton of anime as a teenager but sort of stopped as an adult, and Utena is one of the few titles that’s really stuck with me for over two decades now. It’s also something I can see impacting our modern generation of animators and storytellers—She-Ra and Steven Universe both definitely show influence from Utena imo.
